The Relationship Between Adult Attachment and Posttraumatic Growth: The Mediating Effects of Emotional Clarity and Adaptive Cognitive Emotion Regulation Strategies
Song Mi-Ran

Kim Young-Keun
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the mediating effect of emotional clarity and adaptive cognitive emotion regulation strategies(ACER) on the relationship between adult attachment and posttraumatic growth. A total of 508 adults participants were surveyed. Results are as followed. First, anxiety attachment and avoidance attachment were negatively correlated with emotional clarity, ACER and posttraumatic growth. Second, the complete double mediation of emotional clarity and ACER in the relationship between anxiety attachment and posttraumatic growth was identified. Third, the partially double mediation of emotional clarity and ACER in the relationship between avoidance attachment and posttraumatic growth was identified. The findings suggest that more emotional clarity and greater use of ACER may facilitate posttraumatic growth in adults with insecure attachments. The implications of this study are discussed.
